BMAI is hosting an in-school kata tournament to give our karate students an opportunity to learn about the performance aspect of karate. This is an excellent opportunity for students to showcase their achievements and for family members to come show their support. Students of any age or rank may participate as long as they can perform a kata by themselves.
Performing a kata in front of other people is a huge confidence-builder, but can be terrifying, too! The purpose of this event is for the students to build their confidence in a familiar atmosphere with the support of people they know and trust. The judges for the event will be BMAI instructors and high-ranking students who will do their utmost to make this a positive learning experience for everyone.
Each competitor will receive a certificate of participation and awards will be given out for first, second and third places in each division. Karate students of all ages and ranks may participate. There is a $15 entry fee for this event. Competitors may enter as many events as they wish, including being on multiple kata teams. Add $5 for each additional event.
Competitors should be warmed up and ready to go at 5:30. The competition will begin after some brief explanations of the procedure. The number of entries will determine the length of the event. It is unlikely to last more than two hours.
Please ask an instructor is you have any questions about this exciting event!
Tournament applications and more information are available at the dojo.
